If you’ve worked with P3 Events before you will know we are all about safety at our events. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and ensuring everyone is in a safe environment.
Our event capabilities are huge and we specialise in; corporate functions, product launches, private events, concerts and festivals, entertainment, styling and markets BUT what we are renowned for is community events. We love the spirit in which these events are held and it’s wonderful to be part of the growth of a new community.
With summer almost upon us, we spoke to the team about safety and asked them what their top ten tips would be for an outdoor event and what to avoid:
DO’s
- Apply sunscreen every 2 hours
- Position a fire extinguisher next to all generators and BBQ’s
- Consider the wind and sun direction when positioning marquees and inflatables
- Where possible pegging is safer than weighting equipment
- Prior to pegging equipment, ensure you consider where underground services are; i.e. irrigation and power
- When using a ladder ensure you have 3 points of contact
- When erecting heavy overhead equipment such as staging and structural marquees, hard hats and steel cap boots should be worn
- Always plan an emergency evacuation procedure and communicate the process with all onsite event crew and suppliers
- Be aware of the location of the closest first aid supplies, medical centres and hospitals; and always have the phone numbers for emergency services on hand
- Ensure potable water is available for the public
Don'ts
- Never assume that because there is NO wind that you don’t need to safely secure marquees or inflatables
- Never leave electrical cords uncovered or in traffic areas and provide cable covers or suspend them safely overhead where possible
- Never setup a generator without a protective barrier
- Never have a BBQ where small fingers can reach out and touch it!
- Don’t put all the children’s activities in the same location as these activities are a huge draw card for families and people will walk around an event site to find them; think about queue lines
- Don’t presume that emergency services will be able to find your site; install the “Emergency +” app on your phone
